Nostalgia has helped bring back things from our past into the present day, where we have social media, and endless tools to create things that might not have been possible in the past.

What is being called “Simpsonwave” is one of those things. It is essentially a new genre of music. It’s vaporwave, which is its own genre itself, but with Simpsons clips that are shown over the music.

Know Your Meme gives us a little more insight as to the origins of the meme:

On October 27th, 2015, Viner Spicster posted a clip from The Simpsons Season 7 Episode 20 “Bart on the Road” remixed with the song “Resonance” by chillwave artist HOME (shown below). In the following eight months, the video gained over 21.9 million loops and was reuploaded to by YouTuber E z e k the following month.

Many of the Simpsonwave YouTube clips feature a purple tint, and have similar, 80s retro sounding music playing over them. Somehow, there’s something to these, as some of them have over 1 million views.

If you look in the comments of some of the videos, people will find themselves not understanding the appeal of the videos, but somehow find them very appealing.

There’s not much to dislike about the videos. They are certainly something different, something that feels very new. The lack of words also likely keeps the mind going, as the viewer tries to figure out exactly what it is that they’re watching.
