Disgraced US Olympian Ryan Lochte’s first stop on his image rehabilitation tour is the place where all C-level celebrities go for a jumpstart to their careers – Dancing with the Stars. It didn’t get off to a great start. Lochte’s debut DWTS appearance was marred on Monday night when an apparent protestor came on to the dance floor.

Lochte had just finished his first dance and was hearing feedback from the judges when Carrie Ann Inaba began scolding someone to “back off.” Some kind of commotion was clearly taking place, but ABC didn’t show it because they were on a split screen of Inaba and a replay of Lochte’s dance. However, you can clearly see what looks to be security coming out to the stage.

When the program returned from their abrupt commercial break, host Tom Bergeron said security had to deal with someone (or some people) who came onto the dance floor at Lochte.

You can still hold Lochte in poor regard because of the international incident he caused thanks to his false robbery story, but that’s no excuse for someone to come charging at him during a celebrity dancing competition. Try imagining writing that sentence six months ago and having it make any sense whatsoever.

At the moment, this tweet from People executive editor Kate Coyne is the closest thing we have to a report of what exactly happened:

Without any further video of the incident, I guess we’re just going to have to wait for Lochte to tell us all what really happened.

On second thought…
