Taylor Swift has come to the aid of Kesha, by donating $250,000 to help her with financial needs during what is clearly a tough time for the singer.
A rep for Swift told Mashable, “In a show of support, Taylor Swift has donated $250,000 to Kesha to help with any of her financial needs during this trying time.”
A New York judge denied Kesha a court injunction on Friday in her ongoing legal battle with producer Dr. Luke, who Kesha alleges drugged and raped her nearly 10 years ago.
The suit said, “For the past 10 years, Dr. Luke has sexually, physically, verbally and emotionally abused” Kesha “to the point where Ms. Sebert nearly lost her life.” It also states that Kesha, “lived in a prison of his abuse.” Her lawyer described the lawsuit as “a wholehearted effort by Kesha to regain control of her music career and her personal freedom after suffering for 10 years as a victim of mental manipulation, emotional abuse and sexual assault at the hands of Dr. Luke.”
Dr. Luke’s lawyers claim that Kesha made up the allegations in order to nullify their contract. As a result, he filed a countersuit for defamation.
Many pop stars have publicly supported Kesha since the ruling came down last week, including Demi Lovato and Lady Gaga, with the hashtag #FreeKesha rallying those in support.

Lovato wasn’t impressed with Swift’s donation in support of Kesha though, and tweeted, “Take something to Capitol Hill or actually speak out about something and then I’ll be impressed.”

The grumblings between Lovato and Swift somewhat took away from the situation at hand, which is much more serious than some silly back and forth between artists. Swift’s donation certainly should be helpful in covering any type of fees or financial needs that Kesha might have.
Also, when you’re as big as Taylor Swift is, when you make any sort of support towards a cause, it will absolutely generate attention and awareness for said cause. She’s arguably the most popular artist in her genre, so to have her on your side of things certainly is never a bad thing.
