There have been quite a few celebrities who have publicly feuded with Donald Trump and the White House for using their music in social media posts, including Olivia Rodrigo, Katy Perry, Noah Kahan, and Sabrina Carpenter. Taylor Swift, however, has decided to take a quieter approach that might be even more effective.
Over the past several days, the White House and “Team Trump” campaign accounts have used Swift’s music in their posts on TikTok, with one post even taunting Swift in the comments, seemingly aware that the pop sensation would not like the account using her music.
Swift appears to have taken action, but rather quietly.
Swift Shuts Down Trump
Over the past several days, the White House and the Team Trump account have posted multiple videos utilizing Swift’s music.
The first post, which was posted by the Team Trump account on Aug. 3, used Swift’s song “August” for a video that showed Trump watching fireworks with text that said, “Mood because it’s August and Donald Trump is your President.” The caption also taunted Swift, tagging her and saying, “I’m sure Taylor Swift will be super excited we used her song!”
A few days later, however, Swift had her song removed from the post. In addition to removing “August” from the Aug. 3 post, she also muted other songs that were posted by the Team Trump account last fall.
On Wednesday, the official White House TikTok account once again used a Taylor Swift song, using her hit “I Bet You Think About Me” on a video montage of Trump. Within a few hours, that song was muted and removed from the video.
Swift did not make a public statement, but the quiet message was quite clear.
Trump vs. Swift
Swift and Trump have had a rather adversarial relationship for years.
Over the years, Swift has been quite outspoken in her opposition to Trump, directly opposing him in the 2020 election, but that didn’t stop Trump from trying to gain her endorsement in the 2024 presidential election.
“Joe Biden didn’t do anything for Taylor, and never will. There’s no way she could endorse Crooked Joe Biden, the worst and most corrupt President in the History of our Country, and be disloyal to the man who made her so much money. Besides that, I like her boyfriend, Travis, even though he may be a Liberal, and probably can’t stand me!” Trump said on Truth Social ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
Of course, Swift did not endorse Trump. After Biden dropped out of the race, Swift publicly endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris over Trump.
Trump clearly did not take kindly to this endorsement, and he made his feelings about Swift known in a post on Truth Social.
“I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,” Trump wrote in all caps at the time.
The White House went on to mock Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce after their high-profile wedding last month.
