The secret, previously untitled movie from parody rap/pop group The Lonely Island and Judd Apatow now has a name. The film, which previously had the working title Conner4Real, will be called Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping.

Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is an appropriate name for a film by the Lonely Island guys who are known for their silliness, as their hit songs include “Dick in a Box” “Jizz in My Pants” and “I’m On a Boat.”

Here’s the plot synopsis from the press release.

“Popstar goes behind the scenes as singer/rapper Conner4Real (Samberg) faces a crisis of popularity after his sophomore album flops, leaving his fans, sycophants and rivals all wondering what to do when he’s no longer the dopest star of all.”

Popstar is the second film from the Lonely Island crew of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaeffer and Jorma Taccone, which previously made the criminally underrated Hot Rod way back in 2007, and drew recognition for creating brilliant digital shorts on Saturday Night Live. The group last released an album in 2013 and has since gone on to do different things, with Samberg starring in Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Taccone and Schaeffer acting and directing elsewhere. To see them reunite will be pretty fun.

Popstar seems to have the group’s biggest studio backing yet, as Universal Pictures is distributing the film and the studio has landed some big talent to co-star. The film stars the Lonely Island trio, Sarah Silverman, Tim Meadows and Imogen Poots. Schaeffer and Taccone co-directed the project.

The film is not going to be for everyone, but I’d bet it’s going to be as funny as it will be odd. Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is due for release June 3.
