Superman has been cast on the small screen.

Teen Wolf alum Tyler Hoechlin has been cast as Clark Kent on Supergirl on The CW. Hoechlin recently starred in Everybody Wants Some!! and will be appearing in the upcoming Fifty Shades Darker. Supergirl executive producer Andrew Kreisberg told HitFix they’re thrilled with the casting.

“Greg and I have wanted to work with Tyler for ages, so this worked out perfectly because Tyler is Superman. We are so thrilled and humbled to add another amazing actor to the legacy of this iconic character.”

It was a pretty shocking development when The CW announced Superman was coming to Supergirl . Considering Henry Cavill was playing the iconic superhero on the big screen and DC’s willingness to sacrifice characters and plot points on CW shows in order to use them in film, it seemed impossible we’d ever see Clark Kent in the TV universe. That mindset might have changed when comic writer Geoff Johns was named co-chief of DC Movies. Hopefully, the move is the start of a trend of more DC characters being allowed to appear on The CW *cough bring back Deathstroke cough*.

While online campaigns wanted Smallville actor Tom Welling to return to the role, Hoechlin is a fine choice. He’s handsome, has a Superman-like physicality and is a fine actor. It seems like a perfect fit for Kal-El.

Hoechlin’s Superman will appear in the first two episodes of season two of Supergirl.
