Art imitates life. But sometimes, art imitates art imitating art.

Batman vs. Superman director Zack Snyder is known for quite a few action films at this point. His early films like Dawn of the Dead and 300 put him on the map as Hollywood’s next great visual storyteller. After that, films like Watchmen, Sucker Punch and Man of Steel left everyone feeling as though Snyder is really good at the visual part but not so much as the storyteller part.

Snyder was recently profiled by Bloomberg Business and asked about what he has planned after the upcoming Justice League movie and he shared a story idea that isn’t actually based on a comic book for once.

Meanwhile, Snyder is spending late nights in his cavernous office working on the upcoming Justice League movie. He’s also thinking about making films that aren’t comic book adaptations. Sort of. One of these days, he’d like to make one about George Washington in the style of 300. He has a picture in his office of the Revolutionary War hero crossing the icy Delaware on his way to decimate the British in the Battle of Trenton. “We were talking about it,” Snyder says. “The first thing we asked was, well, how are we going to make it look? I pointed at this painting. It looks like 300. It’s not that hard.”

Here’s the thing. After 300 came out, Robot Chicken spoofed the film by creating a trailer for 1776, a hyper-visual, action-packed reimagining of the American Revolution. And if you’ve ever seen 300, you know how ridiculous it all looks.

From a monsterous King George personally-threatening George Washington and John Hancock soaring through the air in order to sign his name to the Declaration of Independence, it’s everything that you’d expect a Zack Snyder vision of the Revolutionary War to be.

And now it could possibly happen for real? It sounds like a bad idea but we can’t wait to see it. Coincidentally, that’s the hallmark of a Zack Snyder film.
