The Royal Rumble match is a long-time staple of WWE. I admit that I don’t watch every WWE event like I used to but I always make sure to watch the Royal Rumble every year.

For the 2018 version, January’s annual WWE pay-per-view may include the first Women’s Royal Rumble match, according to the Wrestling Observer. Not much info has been revealed and it’s probably to early to figure out if this will actually happen but I wouldn’t necessarily be surprised if this happens.

WWE has been big in making sure female pro wrestlers are getting the same opportunities and publicity as male wrestlers. What was once unthinkable because there was a time where the “divas” weren’t actually being signed for their wrestling talent, has now evolved into a very competitive division with a very sizable roster of women who can put on a great match.

And they have proven that in recent years. Whether it’s the 32-woman Mae Young Classic tournament or Charlotte and Sasha Banks main eventing a pay-per-view in a Hell in a Cell match or having a Money in the Bank ladder match, which ended in a very stupid way but that’s neither here nor there. Anyway, my point is that the Women’s division is at its most competitive.

I’m not sure it’s realistic to have two 30 person Royal Rumble matches because while it would be great, would result in an incredibly long event. Also, given there are fewer females on the WWE roster than males, it probably makes sense to have about 15 women.

But how awesome would this be? It would be a way for women from opposing brands at Raw to compete against each other where they normally can’t. And just like in the men’s Royal Rumble, this would be a way to bring back some legends for a surprise appearance. Who wouldn’t want to see Trish Stratus or Lita come back for one night only and spend a few minutes in the ring?

This seems like it would be a great idea and hopefully WWE is reading this and listening and makes this a reality in 2018. Maybe even give the same stipulation and give the winner a Women’s Championship shot at WrestleMania.
