Hockey Tweets of the Week – Week 3

Welcome to our weekly “Hockey Tweets of the Week” feature on Puck Drunk Love. We will aim to give you the most entertaining tweets each week from hockey players, writers and fans.

This week, we have a plethora of tweets reacting to the happenings of the National Hockey League. And there were plenty of them. We’ll start with the debut of new sweaters in Anaheim, as the Ducks brought back the famous “Mighty Ducks” logo from the Disney years, set with a backdrop of their current color scheme of orange.

Plenty of Ducks fans loved it:

But for some it brought visions of …

I guess the new sweaters make a lot of people … hungry.

No wonder the Avalanche skated like they were taking part in a skills competition.

I don’t know. I think that would be more … eggplant. But that was an original Ducks color, so it works out.

Phil Kessel returns to Toronto

The Toronto Maple Leafs welcomed former favorite son Phil Kessel back to Maple Leaf Gardens as his Penguins defeated the Leafs 2-1 on Saturday. Background: The one Maple Leaf game I ever attended at MLG featured two guys to our right calling Kessel “Fatty” whenever he touched the puck. (And this was a preseason game so you know hockey in T.O. is intense.) So if you see a lot of food references from the Twitterverse, you’ll understand why:

To be fair, our burgers are pretty gosh darn good.

Raccoon Kessel?

Kinda like …

And just in case you think Leafs fans forgot about some of their other former heroes …

… you were right. They did.

The Roberto Luongo Tweet Of The Week

It’s from earlier than this past week, as our buddy Strombone reacted to the first 3-on-3 overtime between the Lightning and the Flyers:

But it became relevant as Luongo took part in his first 3-on-3 gong show. And unfortunately it was against the Penguins, who took advantage of him on the power play:

No wonder he sobbed wearily into his pillow

There’s no more divisive figure in today’s hockey world than John Tortorella. Ask your fair share of Lightning and Rangers fans and they will have fond memories of the coaching pepperpot. Ask Canucks fans (and maybe Larry Brooks), you might get different memories.

Now that he’s back in the league to try to turn around the 0-7 Columbus Blue Jackets, you just knew that social media’s reaction would be just as colorful as the man himself:

Line Brawls > Starting Goalies … I guess.

See? The people love their line brawls.

He’d probably say that his soul needs more salt.

And you thought safe was death.

So you’d give Biden the cannon instead? Think of what you’re asking here, man.

Well that’s good, maybe he’ll do the Aaaaaayyyyyyy sign and we’ll get to see his thumbs!

Meow Dog Cat

The Jackets would do better pretending their losses are wins.

(P.S. Tortorella’s debut didn’t go so well … they lost to the Wild on Thursday to go 0-8. Maybe they would have a better chance if they were coached by an actual cat.)
