One of the most common questions race car drivers are asked is “What happens if you have to go to the bathroom?” Considering they are in a car for a few hours with no breaks, if they have to go bad enough, they just go. It’s something that all drivers have probably done at one point in their career and as of today, James Hinchcliffe joins that illustrious group who has peed in their race car while on track.

The conditions at Barber Motorsports Park is brutal. It’s cold, it’s raining and the race has been stopped a couple of times due to standing water causing the cars to hydroplane. It’s bad enough to drive a race car in those conditions, it’s even worse if you have to go to the restroom too. That’s just what happened to Hinchcliffe, who pissed his pants and he doesn’t care who knows it.

Hinchcliffe mentioned that a similar situation happened to Carlos Munoz a few years ago. I’m not sure Munoz really wanted that story out there.

I’m sure that kind of weight is off of Hinch’s shoulders, or bladder I guess. At least when you’re on-track, you have other things to focus on that might get you through an entire race without going to the bathroom. That and when it’s hot, a driver usually sweats the water out that they don’t need to go. But when it’s miserable conditions and you’re just sitting in your car stationary for a half hour, having it rain on you, that’s kind of a perfect storm for needing to go.

It was said by Billy Madison, “You ain’t cool unless you pee your pants.” At least we now know James Hinchcliffe is cool, but he may need to pee his pants more than once to be considered Miles Davis.
