LeBron James’ charity, the LeBron James Family Foundation, will be sponsoring Chris Buescher’s #17 Ford at this Sunday’s NASCAR race in Michigan.
RFK Racing made the announcement earlier Thursday, and James responded to the news on Twitter.

This is LeBron’s first direct involvement in NASCAR, but he has been a partial owner of RFK racing through his partnership with Fenway Sports Group, the “F” in RFK Racing. Along with ownership in the Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Liverpool FC, LeBron owns a piece of the #6 and #17 cars. Brad Daugherty and Michael Jordan are also basketball players who became NASCAR Cup Series team owners, though LeBron is the only one of the three who did this while playing.
The LeBron James Family Foundation is a charity that was established by the NBA superstar which helps out children and families in his hometown of Akron, Ohio through the power of education. Among the various initiatives under the I PROMISE Program include building a school, housing, and a medical center for urban youth and their families. The foundation states that more than 1,600 students and their families have been given education and job training opportunities, as well as medical, mental, and behavioral resources to grow and prosper.
