In a particularly horrific press release, NASCAR announced late Sunday night that a noose was found in Bubba Wallace’s garage stall at Talladega.

Wallace is the only black driver in NASCAR’s Cup Series, and this incident comes after he was a vocal and driving force behind NASCAR’s decision to ban Confederate flags from being flown at events.

From NASCAR’s statement:

“Late this afternoon, NASCAR was made aware that a noose was found in the garage stall of the 43 team. We are angry and outraged and cannot state strongly enough how seriously we take this heinous act. We have launched an immediate investigation and will do everything we can to identify the person(s) responsible and eliminate them from the sport. As we have stated unequivocally, there is no place for racism in NASCAR and this act only strengthens our resolve to make the sport open and welcoming to all.”

What a fucking horrible thing.

Wallace tweeted this after NASCAR’s statement went public:

As with everything Wallace has done, that’s an incredible display of strength.

Hopefully this is able to be solved, and the person or people responsible are punished as much as they possible can be.
