during qualifying for the Sydney 500, which is part of the Supercars Championship at Sydney Olympic Park Street Circuit on December 3, 2016 in Sydney, Australia.

Whenever I feel like I really need to take a leak, I always credit actually using a facility to me to no longer feeling like I really, really need to go to the bathroom. And while using the restroom has helped me in many ways over the years, I can’t claim its helped me in auto racing qualifying like one Australian racer can claim.

Shane van Gisbergen, a New Zealander who races Australian Supercars, won the pole for Race 1 at the Clipsal 500 by 0.0001 seconds Friday.

Van Gisbergen said that it might have had to do with the piss he took prior to his qualifying attempt:

“I went to the toilet before qualifying so maybe that was it.”

At least he’s honest. An American athlete would likely thank God and then give some BS cliche.

Van Gisbergen did go on to give a more technical reason, talking about his crew making the car more comfortable. However, if that was his main reasoning, this wouldn’t be a story in the U.S.

Well, know I know that if I want to be successful, I need to use the restroom before getting to work.
