Trackhouse Racing has hired Repco Supercars Championship driver Shane van Gisbergen will drive the No. 91 Chevrolet for the team in the Chicago Street Race.

Van Gisbergen has won three Supercars titles, including the last two seasons and he ranks fourth on the all-time victory list with 78.

This is of course an exciting moment for van Gisbergen. This would be his first NASCAR race and he says this is a dream come true, which he didn’t think would become a reality.

“I can honestly say I have dreamed about an opportunity in NASCAR, but really never thought it would become a reality,” van Gisbergen, who is a native of New Zealand, said in a statement. “I can’t wait to get to the States to meet everyone and prepare for Chicago. It’s NASCAR’s first time on the streets of Chicago so in some ways everyone will be a rookie like me, but I don’t underestimate that it’s going to be a huge challenge.”

He will get plenty of help his first time out. He will be working with Tony Stewart’s old crew chief Darian Grubb, who helped Stewart win a NASCAR Cup Series championship in 2011.

This will be a great opportunity for van Gisbergen to show what he’s got in front of a national audience on July 2.
