It’s safe to say that Travis Pastrana is the most versatile athletes in the world of extreme sports, dominating the X-Games as a motocross rider and a rally car driver while having success driving and performing stunts with pretty much anything that has an engine. And now, it looks like he’s taking on a new challenge: the Daytona 500.

On Tuesday morning, Travis Pastrana and 23XI Racing officially announced that the X-Games legend will attempt to qualify for the Daytona 500 this year.

“I’m thrilled at the chance to race in the Daytona 500,” said Pastrana in a release from the team. “It’s the one event every year that all my friends and family come together to watch at our buddy Dale’s house and it’s an event I’ve wanted to race my entire life.”

While most of his success and fame has come in the X-Games, Pastrana is no stranger to the NASCAR world. The 39-year-old has started 42 NASCAR Xfinity Series races in his life, even running the full season in 2013, finishing as high as ninth.

First, however, Pastrana will have to make the Daytona 500 field, which won’t be easy. irst, he’ll have to make the field. There are four open spots in the race remaining, and he’ll be competing with other drivers – including seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson – to earn one.
