This has got to be a first.

Soccer player Javier Hervas has departed the Bosnian Club FK Zeljeznicar Sarajevo before appearing in a single game, after an attack by stray dogs.

Yes, you read correctly.

As WorldSoccer.com reports, Hervas and his wife were walking their dog in Bosnia when a pack of stray dogs attacked them. The attack must have been emotionally scarring because Hervas wife reportedly suggested they leave Bosnia immediately, which they did.

Hervas just joined the club this summer, so his stay in Bosnia was short-lived.

The club announced on its website a mutual agreement to terminate Hervas’ contract upon his request. In a statement, the club wrote Hervas hasn’t adapted well to his new digs.

“Hervas has not adapted to the capital of Bosnia-Herzegovina and, at the insistence of his family, especially his wife, wants to return to his country.”

Hervas wasn’t a free agent very long, as the Spaniard returned home to ink a two-year deal with Division Two squad CD Mirandes.

Now, it’s easy to criticize Hervas for leaving after one incident with a pack of stray dogs, but if he was legitimately unhappy in Bosnia, you can’t really blame him for leaving. Yes, the reason is strange, but it’s warranted. If it’s not a good fit for him and his family, there’s no reason for being there. Good on Zeljeznicar for agreeing to mutually terminate his contract.
