Wouldn’t it be funny if a couple guys had taken a punt on Leicester City to win the Premier League at 2,000-1 odds? A couple of firefighters did just that after starting with a £5 on Leicester beating Sunderland on the opening day at 2,000-1 odds and are each £10,000 richer.
If you’re curious, at today’s exchange rates that’s worth $14,495 each.
Jordan Wright and Mitchell Baldock both thought they were cashing in on crazy odds for one game by betting on Leicester City to defeat Sunderland in the season opener. It wasn’t until some colleagues relentlessly mocked them for what they were actually betting on, for Leicester to win the Premier League title, that they realized their “mistake.” Who is laughing now, other London firefighters?
Wright said he, “thought BetFred had messed up the odds”, which is why he pounced. He didn’t think about Leicester seriously winning the title until recently.
“It was when they won 3-1 against Manchester City – that’s when I started thinking we had a real chance of winning,” he said.
“Everyone loves an underdog so it was nice to see them win,” Mr Wright, a London Fire Brigade worker, said.
“Every Premier League team wanted them to win, too – no-one will begrudge them for it.”
So what are the two lucky firefighters going to spend their newfound cash on? Wright says he’s going to Vegas (of course), but will also invest into his own personal training business. Baldock will also invest in a business.
