Fandom doesn’t have an age restriction.

Sometimes, tough decisions have to be made, where prioritizing time with friends can conflict with sporting fandom. A Five-year-old in Scotland made sure to let his favorite team, Celtic F.C., know he wouldn’t be available to watch Saturday’s game against Motherwell due to a prior engagement.

The BBC reports Louis Kayes, called Celtic F.C. after a friends birthday party forced him out of watching live-game action at Celtic Park. Desperately not wanting his favorite player, Celtic captain Scott Brown, and manager Brendan Rodgers to notice he was missing from the game, Louis left a message explaining his absence.

He wanted to let both of them know he’d missed it in case they were looking for him,” Louis’ mother, Lisa said.

Celtic Park responded to Kayes message, thanking him for giving them the heads up about his absence. For a diehard soccer fan, missing a game is pretty much hell, so I’m sure the message eased some of Louis’ anxiety about not attending.

Thankfully, the decision to miss the game was justified. Louis told the BBC the birthday party was “good.” Not exactly a glowing endorsement of the event which caused him to miss the Celts, but as a five-year-old, sometimes you have to put on your big boy pants on and play the necessary birthday socializing game. Louis said he will definitely be there for today’s Champions League game against Borussia Monchengladbach
