Every day, flying feels less and less safe these days. After returning to the White House following his defeat of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, Donald Trump has worked with tech billionaire Elon Musk to eliminate federal positions deemed superfluous to running the country.
However, the cuts seem to have had a negative effect on air travel as air traffic controllers have lost their jobs. There have been semi-regular headlines of plane crashes and close calls.
Earlier this year, a military helicopter collided with an airplane carrying members of the United States ice skating program, plunging both aircraft into the Potomac River and leaving no survivors.
Now, more tragic news has arrived surrounding an airplane crash.
“Karenna Groff, a former MIT soccer player named the 2022 NCAA woman of the year, died Saturday along with six other people including members of her family in a plane crash in upstate New York,” reported ESPN on Monday.
People reacted to the tragedy on social media.
“She was simply an incredible human. Always had a smile and always said ‘thank you’. Very lucky to have gotten to know her and cover her final two years of playing soccer at MIT,” a reporter who covered her collegiate career wrote on Twitter.
“A lot of crashing aircraft of late. Or at least it seems that way,” someone else noted.
“Incredibly heartbreaking news. May Allah grant peace to all the souls lost and strength to their families during this difficult time,” someone else added.
Hopefully, actions are taken to increase safety for aircraft passengers moving forward.
