Lionel Messi has finally added a goal to his performance at the 2018 World Cup, opening his account in the 14th minute with some help from a ridiculous pass by Ever Banega.

Left thigh, left foot, right foot, and Nigeria is in a world of hurt.

Argentina came into the day fourth in Group D, two points behind Nigeria and behind third place Iceland on goal difference. For them to advance, they need to win and need an assist in some form from Croatia. If the Croats either draw or defeat Iceland, Argentina is through with a win. If Iceland wins, Argentina will only go through if they beat Nigeria by a larger margin than Iceland…and only if the two sides don’t finish with the same goal difference.

So, needless to say, while Messi’s first goal is massive, there’s still a lot of soccer left to play in Russia to determine the second team coming out of Group D.
