USWNT star Mallory Swanson suffered a horrible injury on Saturday afternoon.

Swanson and her U.S. teammates are playing the Republic of Ireland on Saturday in a friendly matchup. Unfortunately, the superstar forward’s time on the pitch was cut short due to a brutal knee injury.

We won’t show the injury due to its terrible nature. But needless to say, everyone was mortified.

“Swanson is on the stretcher and being loaded into the cart,” Meg Linehan of The Athletic tweeted. “The mod here has taken an extremely grim turn, but a massive round of applause for her exit from the field.”

Linehan added that Swanson waved to the crowd after being carted off.

This would be horrible news for the USWNT as the Women’s World Cup approaches this summer if Swanson misses significant time. The injury itself looked quite ugly, which is a significant concern.

In international play, Swanson has recorded 32 goals in 87 career appearances dating back to 2016. In the last two years, she’s scored 14 goals in 20 appearances. To say she’s a key contributor to the USWNT wouldn’t do it justice. She had scored in five consecutive national team matches this year in friendlies and in the SheBelieves Cup.

No new updates have been provided to this point on Mallory Swanson. Time will tell to see, but we hope she makes a full recovery.
