The USWNT will be competing in the SheBelieves Cup from March 1-8 in Tennessee, Ohio, and New Jersey, and the final roster has been finalized for the event. Stars Trinity Rodman from the Washington Spirit, OL Lyonnes midfielder Lindsey Heaps, and Rose Lavelle of Gotham FC headline the group of standout players, which consists of 19 domestic players and seven performers based with clubs abroad.
Winning the tournament would mark the eighth victory for the USWNT, although only 13 players from last year’s SheBelieves Cup are on this year’s roster.
“The SheBelieves Cup is a fantastic tournament which gives us the opportunity to replicate the group stage of a FIFA tournament,” Hayes said, according to ESPN.
“Three quality games in quick succession also allow us to replicate conditions that will prepare us for the World Cup qualifying campaign this fall. As always, we want to keep developing our player pool to be more and more prepared. As we gain more experience, I expect our standards to keep improving.”
The USWNT will open play against Argentina on March 1 at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee, with its next match coming three days later against long-time rivals Canada at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field in Columbus, Ohio, before closing competition on March 7 against Colombia at Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey.
12 of the players called up have 10 or fewer caps, making this a young roster, although its average age of 24.4 years is still a notch above the 24.1 that was handed during January camp.
It’ll be exciting to see the world’s top team take the pitch again.
