Algerians take their soccer seriously. How seriously? Well, lets just say if you’re a ref and you make an unpopular call, you might want to watch your back. There’s a chance a fan will take the field and headbutt you from behind.

That’s what happened to this poor referee in the video below.

A collision between one team’s goalkeeper and an opposing forward got everyone nice and riled up, and when the ref went to assign a card, things quickly got out of hand. It seems the player who was knocked down by the keeper disagreed with the call, and proceeded to get in the ref’s face to let him know it.

At one point, most of the team in blue appeared to be on the field, either admonishing the ref or trying to pull their teammates back. Things seemed to finally calm down by the 1:12 mark of the video, but that’s when our fan decided he’d had enough.

One of the players in blue seemed to get the worst of it, but the pitch invader got his too. What I can only assume is the on-field security flipped him on his head before he was removed from the field.

The match was between DRB Tadjenanet and MC Alger of the Algerian Ligue Professionelle. MC Alger won 1-0.
