Female Ref is attacked

A soccer match in Argentina took a wild turn over the weekend when a player ruthlessly punched an unsuspecting female official in the head from behind and was then arrested on the field.

After a foul towards midfield, referee Dalma Cortadi awarded a yellow card to Cristian Tirone, who plays for the third division Club Deportivo Garmense in Argentina. Tirone was quickly thrown into a fit of rage.

Though several of his teammates attempted to subdue him and calm him down, Tirone eventually broke loose and ran straight for Cortadi. With her back turned to him, Tirone threw a brutal punch right at the head of the unsuspecting referee.

Following the attack, police immediately apprehended and arrested Tirone on the field. Cortadi, meanwhile, was taken to the hospital where she remained for several hours, though she was later released with only scrapes and bruises, according to the New York Post. She has since filed criminal charges against Tirone for the attack.

“You have to kick him out forever. He should never be in any club. He is a violent person. He must also be in his daily life.” Cortadi said, according to the New York Post. “I saw it on the video: a normal person does not do what this man did. No person deserves this. We don’t go to the [matches] to be beaten. I hope he pays for what he did.”

Tirone has been suspended by the soccer league for life.
