The USMNT drew England 0-0 in their 2022 FIFA World Cup matchup on Friday. The result had everyone around the United States talking. Including President Joe Biden.
Biden, a noted sports fan himself who as VP was in the USMNT locker room the last time they played England in 2010, was on the heels of previous World Cup interaction earlier this week. He was quick to comment on the draw result from Friday’s match. White House reporter Alex Thompson tweeted, “Biden responds to US-England tie: ‘I’d rather it be one nothing but it’s good. England is tough.'”

Biden is right to have wanted a win. Team USA had opportunities to win the match at times. Especially toward the end of the match. They were unsuccessful and it looked at the end like they pulled their foot off the gas. With that being said, they still put themselves in a position to advance to the knockout stage. If they beat Iran next, they’re through.
England received criticism from fans and the media however for their performance. Both teams could have benefitted from subs down the line. Particularly, in England’s case, Phil Foden and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Neither side was able to take advantage of the other’s indecision to substitute. One side certainly seems more fond of the result than the other though. Especially in terms of how the fans reacted to the result.
