Donald Trump is back in the Oval Office following his defeat of Democratic nominee Kamala Harris in last November’s presidential election. A tradition in the United States is that championship teams are invited to the White House to meet the President.
However, in Trump’s term, many teams and athletes elected to pass on the tradition on account of Trump’s controversial and divisive nature. However, it appears that the tide is turning.
“The Dodgers are at the White House today. Ohio State next week and the Eagles at the end of the month. The sports world has ended its anti-Trump rebellion,” tweeted Outkick founder Clay Travis on Monday during the Los Angeles Dodgers official visit to meet Trump.
Fans reacted to the take on social media.
“When the NBA decided to go to war against Trump and the Republican Party, they sealed their own fate. NBA ratings continue to crater, and the League is in an existential crisis. Good riddance to this leftist pressure group,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“It’s respect for the office, not for the man, much less for the harm that he is causing to our country and the world,” another person added.
“It seems that there’s been a movement away from the fear of the cancel culture, and a sense of freedom to be real again,” one person wrote.
It’ll be interesting to see if this year’s NBA champions elect to visit Trump.
