It feels like it’s been a while since we’ve had reason to discuss hoverboards, but Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is hoping to change that with an upcoming project. He’s taking a hoverboard project to Kickstarter.

Cuban may have a net worth of over $3 billion, but he’s still turning to crowdsourcing for this one. Cuban’s hoverboard, called the Moov, is being created and designed by Radical Transport in Dallas. Cuban has had an interest in the hoverboard market for a few years now, and he has just been waiting for the right time to jump in with a product he feels is worthy of being on the market.

But why does a man like Cuban need to take a project like this to an online crowdfunding campaign, especially when a site like Kickstarter takes a cut of the donations? Asked why he would go to Kickstarter to raise funds for the project, Cuban gave The Verge the obvious answer:

“Why not?”

Cuban may be wealthier than many of us will ever dream of being, and he didn’t get there by throwing money away. Just watch Shark Tank to understand. Cuban has a firm idea of how to generate interest in a product, and he may see going to Kickstarter as a great way to drum up interest in the product before it ever becomes ready to sell to the masses. That actually makes smart business sense.

Now, when will these hoverboards actually, you know, hover? We were supposed to have those back in 2015, you might remember:

Just remember that hoverboards don’t work on water. Unless you have power.
