Hump day came and went and boy was it a busy one with NFL Free Agency beginning, Brock Osweiler being traded for nearly nothing to the Cleveland Browns, the Washington Redskins fired their GM, the Game of Thrones Season 7 Premiere date was announced, and #1 Kansas lost to TCU.
NFL Free Agency Begins

Here’s a rundown thanks to Schefter’s Twitter account of all the free agency moves that happened on day one of the NFL’s official offseason. The first tweet came at 4:54 am EST.

Brock Osweiler traded to Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns can now add another name to the long list of quarterbacks who have played for them over the last decade, Brock Osweiler.
Stunner: Texans trade Brock Osweiler AND 2018 2nd-rd pick to CLEV for Browns to take Osweiler contract off Houston books, sources tell ESPN.
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 9, 2017
And here’s a nuts and bolts recap of the trade.
Cleveland Browns receive: Brock Osweiler and his huge contract, 2018 Texans’ second-round pick, and 2017 Texans’ sixth-round pick.
Houston Texans receive: 2017 Browns’ fourth-round pick, and cap relief.
By freeing themselves of Osweiler, Houston is a step ahead of Denver, who may not be able to acquire Romo until they trade Siemian. Houston can now go all in on Romo and try to land him quickly. By trading for Romo sooner rather than later, not only do the Texans stop the Broncos from trying to trade for Romo, but Houston can also move on to free agents it may want to sign, but can’t until it gets its quarterback situation figured out.
The Redskins fired their GM Scot McCloughan
A couple days ago on March 7th, our own Kevin McGuire asked the interesting question of where in the world is Redskins’ GM Scott McCloughan?
“Free agency is here in the National Football League, so it would be expected that the general manager for your favorite NFL team is in the front office working on key negotiations to improve the team moving forward. For whatever reason, that is not the case with the Washington Redskins, where general manager Scot McCloughan is oddly nowhere to be found.”
Well the Redskins managed to find and fire him on Thursday.

But it was a lot nastier than that.
Anyonymous Skins official uses McCloughan's drinking as an excuse for his firing. What a disgrace. https://t.co/aO9xEs2rTB

HBO’s Game of Thrones announced the Season 7 Premiere date in a botched stunt
HBO’s Game of Thrones is arguably the most famous TV show in the world right now, and it’s also one of the most secretive. After months of saying the show’s seventh season would debut later than normal and refusing to announce a premiere date, HBO botched its premiere date release stunt.
July 16th, 2017 is when Game of Thrones season 7 will debut, but before fans knew that date, they spent an hour commenting “fire” on a Facebook Live video that crashed twice.
At 2 PM EST, fans logged onto Facebook and began typing “fire” faster than any plot line in the show moves. Sadly for the fans, it didn’t work as HBO hoped it would, as the block of ice melted extremely slowly and the video went out twice.
We will be back and ready for more fire soon. #GoTS7
— Game of Thrones (@GameOfThrones) March 9, 2017
I will admit, I watched a good chunk of the ice melt, and I was disappointed. However, the ending teaser and release date of July 17th, 2017 made it all worth it. Winter is Coming, and I am ready.
The great war is here. #GoTS7 premieres 7.16. pic.twitter.com/1Jna10kNuQ

#1 Kansas fell to TCU in the Big 12 Tournament
In an absolute stunner, #8 seed TCU beat #1 seed and #1 overall Kansas 85-82. The Horned Frogs were a rough 6-12 in the Big 12 this season while the Jayhawks were a cool 16-2. That was all thrown out the window on Thursday when TCU beat Kansas in the Big 12 Quarterfinals.
SURVIVE & ADVANCE!

When Jamie Dixon left the solid ACC basketball program of Pittsburgh for the struggling TCU program this past year, a lot of people questioned it. However, never count Dixon out as he always has a flair for the dramatic.
TCU will now play #4 seed Iowa State in the Big 12 Semifinals on Friday. The other semifinal matchup is #2 seed West Virginia against #6 seed Kansas State.

Bennett hopes others will consider doing the same for the causes they believe.
“I was inspired by Chance the Rapper to ‘think bigger’ when he pledged one million dollars to Chicago kids and their school system,” Bennett said in a statement. “So, I’ll be joining him by investing in the future of our youth. The system is failing our kids, and it will be up to the community and our leaders to help keep the hope alive by focusing on improving our education system and the future of our kids. Any company that decides to invest in me, just know that you’ll be investing in opportunities and providing inspiration for these families — many who feel unnoticed or go unmentioned.”
After Michigan basketball players breathed a sigh of relief after their initial plane taking off for Washington D.C. this week was forced to abort its takeoff and skid off the runway, players acted quickly to updating their family and friends about what had just transpired. Among those sending out updates was Andrew Dakich, the son of ESPN analyst Dan Dakich.
Dakich received the update just about an hour before he was to begin broadcasting for ESPN, which obviously took him a little off course in a state of panic. He expanded on his thoughts to Land of 10.
“My son sent me a text that said, ‘We’ve been in a plane crash’ in a group to my ex-wife, myself and my daughter,” Dan Dakich told Land of 10 on Thursday before Michigan played Illinois at Verizon Center. “I was like, ‘Holy (expletive),’ right? Then, two minutes later, I got another text that was just, ‘Oh my gosh.’ After that I just kept calling him and got a hold of him and found out everyone was OK.”
– One of ESPN’s new 30 for 30s about Mike and the Mad Dog will debut at the Tribeca Film Festival.
From the official press release:
“Mike Francesa and Chris Russo’s ‘Mike and the Mad Dog’ radio show ruled afternoon sports talk from the New York studios of WFAN 660 for 19 years—not bad considering they didn’t think they’d last 19 days together. Even though they both brought Long Island accents and encyclopedic sports knowledge to the microphone, they were distinctly different personalities who often clashed on and off the air. But when all was said and done, they changed sports radio forever.”
Along with the announcement, ESPN also released a trailer for the documentary:
