Max Scherzer had a special night on the mound, Noah Syndergaard had a usual night on the mound and an incredible night at the plate, the Warriors did their thing, and the Blues embarrassed the Stars in Game 7. It’s go time here at the Thursday Cheat Sheet…

Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer struck out 20 batters against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night, becoming the fourth pitcher to accomplish the MLB record-tying feat (joining Roger Clemens who did it twice, Kerry Wood, and Randy Johnson). Highlights:

Kerry Wood tweeted out congratulations to Scherzer for joining the club:

Steph Curry was recognized for his MVP award before Game 5 of Warriors-Blazers on Wednesday night… and NBA commissioner Adam Silver left Steph hanging:

Then the game came, and things went more smoothly for Steph, as he had 29 point and 11 assists to help the Warriors get a 125-121 win. This three-pointer he had in the final thirty seconds was particularly absurd:

And it was his Splash Brother Klay Thompson that actually led the team in scoring, with 33 points on an incredibly efficient 13-of-17 shooting:

Steph raved about Klay after the game:

The Warriors now wait to play the winner of the Thunder-Spurs series, and Oklahoma City has the chance to close that out at home tonight.

The St. Louis Blues destroyed the Dallas Stars in Game 7

The Blues and Stars played a Game 7 in Dallas… and it was not a fun night for the home fans. 6-1 Blues:

The Blues are looking really tough to beat right now, taking down two great teams in the west with the Blackhawks and Stars already. Really, this next series against the Predators or Sharks (their Game 7 is tonight) may be easier on paper for St. Louis than the last two series have been. But, as we’ve seen all postseason, “on paper” can only mean so much with the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The top-four favorites (entering the playoffs) have all been eliminated before the conference finals.

The Raptors took a 3-2 series lead over the Heat with a 99-91 Game 5 victory. DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry combined for 59 points for Toronto in the win. Highlights:

– Noah Syndergaard threw eight innings of two-run ball against the Dodgers on Wednesday night in Los Angeles… and drove in four runs on two bombs. In case his 102 mph fastballs weren’t enough, he’s now having multi-homer games. What a beast.

Bryce Harper was suspended for one game after confronting an umpire in the team’s 5-4 win on Monday.

– Nolan Arenado’s MLB-leading 13th homer was a big one for the Rockies on Wednesday:

– This one is super bizarre and shady AF: A high school umpire in Texas is under investigation after it appears in a video that he covered up home plate with dirt while a player was rounding the bases on a home run. It definitely looks intentional.

– Ben Zobrist grounded out to end the Cubs-Padres game (and to actually give the 25-8 Cubs two losses in one day), and when Padres closer Fernando Rodney did his arrow-shooting celebration, Zobrist jokingly blocked it. A reminder that the game is supposed to be fun.

– Charles Barkley says he’s never going to get on social media and that those of us on there are damn fools. I can’t say he’s wrong about us :(.

– A Triple-A manager hilariously fired his hat into the crowd after getting ejected.

– A giant toothbrush almost ran over Jean Segura.

– This is amazing: A volleyball player used her face to score a point.

– High school relay team uses a high jump bar instead of a baton… and wins.
