Jared Goff Syndication: Detroit Free Press

When the Detroit Lions traded longtime veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford for former Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff, many expected that Goff would be simply a stop-gap quarterback in Detroit until the team eventually found its permanent franchise quarterback. But apparently, that’s not the Lions’ plan.

According to a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport of The NFL Network, the Lions do not see Jared Goff as merely a “bridge” starter. Instead, they see the seventh-year quarterback as their starting quarterback for the foreseeable future.

“As sources have explained, Goff is believed to be their starting QB. Period. Not just until someone else comes along. With all due respect to the unknown — weird things happen in the NFL — the plan is for Goff to be in Detroit for the future,” Rapoport wrote on Sunday.

While the Lions’ Jared Goff plan is undoubtedly surprising to many who have always assumed that the Lions would add another future franchise quarterback in the future, Goff has been stellar for the team so far this season. Goff is having his best season since 2018, when he was selected to the Pro Bowl, and has led the team to an impressive four wins in their last five games.
