Zach Wilson has heard it a lot in his short NFL career. The New York Jets’ 2021 first-round pick struggled mightily over the last two seasons. The team essentially replaced him a few weeks ago when they acquired superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Although Wilson seems to know his role, that isn’t stopping the loudest from letting their voice be heard.
The venerable Mike Francesa chimed in and sent Wilson a brutal message.
Per the New York Post, Francesa chirped at Wilson during his podcast on the BetRivers app. He said, “I don’t think Rodgers was brought here to teach Wilson anything. Anything he’s going to pick up, he will have to pick up on his own. I’m not saying that Rodgers won’t sometimes lend him some of his expertise; maybe he will, maybe he won’t.”
Francesa continued, and the New York sports voice got brutally honest. “He is going to have to suck it up, practice, practice, practice, hustle, learn, and all that time just keep his mouth shut,” Francesa said. “He has been handed a very, very tough road to travel. Maybe he comes out the other side; maybe he doesn’t. If it does, it’ll be a hell of a story.”
Zach Wilson won’t have many believers behind him. His sluggish play made him disliked amongst the ravenous Jet fanbase. It got painfully awkward and awful at times. So one way or another, a change would probably be made. It just so happened that the shift involved Aaron Rodgers.
The former BYU quarterback still has a shot to salvage his career. Whether he does or not is up to him, but he’ll have to make something work.
