The WNBA is in the middle of an explosive wave of growth, as more and more fans attend games and watch them on television, and as the league adds new franchises at a rapid clip, with two joining the league next summer.

However, this growth has been accompanied by conspiracy theories as well. Just like the other major professional sports leagues in the United States, the WNBA is beginning to be accused of “rigging” events to manipulate things and force favorable outcomes for the league as a whole.

At the moment, fans believe the league is fixing the Rookie of the Year award so that it goes to former UCONN Huskies star Paige Bueckers, who is now with the Dallas Wings. These fans believe that the rightful recipient of the award should be Washington Mystics shooting guard Sonia Citron.

“WNBA is cheating the stats for Paige Bueckers to keep her ahead of Sonia Citron for ROTY. If we can’t trust the box score, there’s nothing we can trust,” one fan said in a tweet that has since gone viral, along with an accompanying clip showing a couple of alleged turnovers from Bueckers that weren’t registered in the box score.

“This is so obvious and infuriating. The league is a joke,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“We can’t trust these bloody people at all, they are clearly allowing/directing refs to have special whistles and allow criminal level assault on the court,” someone else added.

“I never thought she was all that. Her gf Fudd was the hero of their NCAA win. And PB really has no court sense, no vision, at least not at the elite level and certainly not at the CC level, who sees the entire play the instant the ball is passed to her,” one fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see if the league deems to respond to the accusations.
