Tuesday night, the Indiana Fever and the Las Vegas Aces faced off in Indiana for Game 2. The Fever saved their season, winning 99-88 as star guard Caitlin Clark led the team with 27 points and 15 assists.

During the game, Aces star center Aja Wilson got into an altercation with a fan and was assessed a technical foul while the man involved was removed from his seat.

In a post-game press conference, the four-time league MVP gave her perspective on the situation and ultimately defended her position.

“With the baseline situation, I don’t know if you guys know me, but I don’t really get into he bullsh*t, I don’t,” Wilson said. “I try to play my game, keep it pushing. But if I’m just walking, because I had just got the foul, I’m chillin’, and I see a man come at me, taking steps towards me and pointing at me, I don’t give a damn what you said; I don’t give a damn how you said it, the tone. That is unacceptable. You don’t step towards me.”

‘WNBA rules call for suspension’

The debate over the WNBA’s “face of the league” is still ongoing, as many fans and media critics consider Caitlin Clark a contender. Opinions were shared on social media, as onlookers did not take to Wilson’s actions.

Longtime sports columnist Jason Whitlock commented on the Wilson press conference via his personal X profile, displeased with her responses, as they may have reflected poorly on her and the WNBA.

“You wonder why most people don’t see you as the face of the league. You are not remotely ready for the responsibility,” Whitlock wrote.

“Wait … I was watching live and assumed he said something inappropriate. Maybe he did. But he was very out of bounds and behind security. She went into the ‘stands’ to confront the player. Odd situation,” said former NFL Giant Geoff Schwartz via X.

“It’s pathetic that many players don’t understand that likeability and playing ability strongly influence their marketability. If you’re not likable, you are not marketable, so don’t complain when others get more marketing deals and sponsorships,” another fan wrote.

“Imagine being so fragile that someone pointing their finger at you sets off a mental episode,” someone added.

“WNBA rules call for suspension for entering the stands. We will see once again WNBA rules are not Aja rules,” a fourth fan said.

“Fans heckle opposing players – especially after plays like that one in games like that one. If you’re a professional athlete, you have to be able to ignore it,” a fifth fan wrote.

“Just a sore loser because Caitlin and the Fever was taking her to school. She should be suspended for the next game which will likely be the end of the Aces season. Everyone really wants to see Fever vs. Dream or Liberty,” another fan added.

The Fever and Aces will meet for a winner-take-all Game 3 on Thursday in Las Vegas.
