The current WNBA collective bargaining agreement is set to expire in October of 2025 following the upcoming WNBA season. And it sounds like Angel Reese is willing to do whatever it takes to make sure she and the WNBA players get what they feel they deserve when it comes to their compensation.
During a recent episode of her “Unapologetically Angel” podcast, Angel Reese issued a pretty clear threat to the WNBA as she made it clear that she is willing to go on strike and skip games in order to secure the type of pay she feels that she deserves.
“Yeah, the CBA is coming up,” Reese said via Awful Announcing. “We deserve more. Everybody, everybody. But we have to face the consequences? The women coming in next year are probably gonna be making more than us. I gotta get in the meetings. Because I’m hearing… If y’all don’t give us what we want, we sitting out.”
Fellow WNBA superstar Dijonai Carrington, who was a guest on the podcast, agreed with this plan from Reese.
“Yeah, that’s a possibility,” Carrington replied. “For real, it was kind of a possibility on the last one. But now, just with the leverage that we have right now. It’s just a time where women’s basketball is going crazy. It’s gonna be a time next year. But we deserve it.”
In a post on social media, Reese clarified that she and the WNBA players are not seeking equal compensation to the NBA, just better compensation.
“I love how yall have selective hearing,” Reese said in a post on X. “I said ‘I’m hearing if they don’t give us what we want, we sitting out’ and that’s the truth. I never said anything about the NBA. We are prepared to stay at the negotiating table for as long as it takes. Here’s the link to my podcast so you can hear the conversation too. Reese, who emerged as one of the biggest stars in the league as just a rookie along with Caitlin Clark, is set to make just under $75,000 in 2025.
