Anel Reese

The 2026 season was an interesting one in the WNBA. The league has experienced extraordinary growth since the arrival of Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese in the 2024 draft. The 2025 season saw the league have record numbers in attendance and television viewership.

Interestingly, both Clark and Reese were absent for large chunks of the season. Clark dealt with various injuries throughout the campaign, including a nagging groin that kept her out of the second half of the season entirely. Reese dealt with injuries as well, but was also suspended by her team, the Chicago Sky, for conduct detrimental to the team.

The suspension led many to believe that the bridge had been burnt between Reese and the organization, leading to speculation on which team she would try to force a trade to.

Now, Reese has spoken about where she plans on playing next season.

“I’m under contract. I plan on returning to the Sky, continuing to talk to Tyler, and building that relationship with Jeff and Tyler,” Reese said.

Fans reacted to the statement on social media.

“Notice how she said she’s under a contract instead of just saying yes I’m returning to sky. My 5 don’t want to be there for real,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“I can see her going to the Valkyries, Wings, or Connecticut. She’d have a better time. The sky front office has no clue what they’re doing,” another fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see if Reese finishes the season in Chicago.
