On Friday night, WNBA superstar Brittney Griner made her triumphant return to the basketball court after missing all of last season due to her prolonged detainment in Russia after authorities found a small amount of prescription cannabis oil in her luggage and convicted her on drug charges. And even though she still may not be at her best after spending so much time away from the court, it sounds like Griner is glad to be back.

Following Friday night’s preseason exhibition game against the Los Angeles Sparks, Brittney Griner expressed how glad she was to be back on the court and even admitted that she didn’t expect she would be ready to play again so quickly.

“I didn’t think I would be sitting right here,” Griner said after the game according to ESPN. “I didn’t think I would be playing basketball this quickly. Even coming back, I didn’t know how it was going to go getting back into it. I mean, I’m grateful to be here for sure. I’m not going to take today for granted, but it was a lot to take in.”

Griner played just 17 minutes in the game, scoring 10 points and pulling down. She recognizes that she is still not as dominant as she used to be after spending so much time away from the court, but she’s getting there.
