The Minnesota Lynx held their exit interviews on Tuesday, following their loss to the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA semifinals. In a shocking turn of events, star Lynx forward Napheesa Collier did not hold back in her assessment of the job league commissioner Cathy Engelbert is doing.
“We have the best league in the world. We have the best fans in the world. But we have the worst leadership in the world,” Collier said.
The Lynx star also revealed something shocking Engelbert said about Indiana Fever phenom Caitlin Clark.
“I also asked how she planned to fix the fact that Caitlin [Clark], Angel [Reese], and Paige [Bueckers], who are clearly driving massive revenue for the league, are making so little for their first 4 years. Her response was, ‘Caitlin should be grateful she makes $16 million off the court because without the platform the WNBA gives her, she wouldn’t be making anything.’”
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“That statement should get her fired lmao,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Commissioner boutta get sent to the shadow realm,” someone else wrote.
“This is why the WNBA will always be a joke of a league, zero respect shown by the players,” another person added.
It’ll be interesting to see whether Engelbert tries to save face with a statement of her own.
