The Chicago Sky have one of the most marketable stars in the WNBA in forward Angel Reese. Reese, along with Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark, entered the league in the 2024 WNBA draft, and the pair’s presence paid immediate dividends for the league.
Since their arrival, the WNBA has seen an explosion in game attendance and television viewership, and the league is even adding expansion teams at an exponential rate. However, the young careers have gone extremely differently for the pair.
Clark’s 2025 season has been derailed by injury, but her Fever are back in the playoffs and advanced to the semifinals after upsetting the Atlanta Dream in the first round. Things haven’t been nearly as successful for Reese and the Sky.
The Sky have been glued to the bottom of the standings in Reese’s time with the organization, and as such have yet to qualify for the playoffs, despite her outstanding play on the court.
It appears that Reese’s frustrations are beginning to boil over.
“With a potential trade request on the docket, an unresolved suspension, and friction among teammates, Sky reporters certainly had plenty to ask the star players about after the season.
“Instead, Reese, (Courtney) Vandersloot, (Ariel) Atkins, and the Sky leave media and fans in the dark as they head into a WNBA winter that will see significant changes around the league ahead of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement and another expansion team joining the league,” reported Brendon Kleen of Awful Announcing.
It’ll be interesting to see what the future has in store for the Sky and Reese, with the sides clearly not seeing eye to eye at the moment.
