Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark is not only one of the most important players for the Fever, but for the WNBA as a whole. Since being drafted with the first overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft, Clark has helped propel the league to record-setting numbers of attendance and television viewership.
Clark’s homecourt arena, Gainbridge Fieldhouse, is set to host the WNBA’s All-Star weekend this weekend. Unfortunately, concern grew around the league that Clark had seriously injured herself in the final minute of Tuesday’s game against the Connecticut Sun.
There was hope that Clark had avoided a serious injury when the Fever initially reported her as questionable for Wednesday’s game against the New York Liberty. Unfortunately, by the end of the day, there was a negative update on Clark’s status.
“Reporting just now on SportsCenter: Caitlin Clark is officially downgraded to out for tonight. TBD still for All-Star,” reported ESPN’s Alexa Philippou.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“She should have sat out yesterday and played today!” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“They need to make a decision and not get peaple hopes up. Just say u not playing,” someone else added.
“Sitting tonight to have chance at weekend she’s to important for that show with it being in Indy won’t be risked,” another fan wrote.
If Clark misses significant time with this injury, it will be the third time this season.
