Caitlin Clark Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark (22) gets the crowd excited Tuesday, May 20, 2025, during a game between the Indiana Fever and the Atlanta Dream at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Atlanta Dream defeated the Indiana Fever, 91-90.

Earlier this week, the Indiana Fever’s season hit a bit of a speed bump when it was announced that Caitlin Clark was set to miss time due to a quad injury. And unfortunately, the bad injury luck for the Fever has continued to pile up ever since Clark took to the bench.

Predictably, the Fever have struggled since Clark began to sit out games, a trend that continued in Friday’s game against the Connecticut Sun. While the Fever were competitive in the game, Clark’s absence was again too much to overcome, losing the game 85-83 and giving the Sun their first win of the season.

Perhaps even more worrying than the actual result of the game was the fact that the thin Fever backcourt without Clark got even thinner after two more Indiana guards, Sydney Colson and Sophie Cunningham, both left Friday’s games. Colson departed due to a left leg injury, while Cunningham injured her right ankle.

On paper, the loss of Cunningham and Colson isn’t the biggest deal, considering they average just 5.3 and 2.0 points per game, respectively. But considering how the Fever are already down Clark for at least the next week or so, there will soon come a point where they will struggle to put forward an adequate starting lineup altogether.

It’s unclear whether Colson or Cunningham, or potentially both, will end up being long-term injuries. But if they are, the Fever will really be struggling for backcourt production moving forward, even more than they already are without Clark.
