United States President Donald Trump has long spoken out against transgender women competing in women’s sports, and he did so again at a rally on Thursday night, where he seemingly expressed his support for former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom, who declared himself eligible for the WNBA as a fake transgender woman.
Kanter Freedom has been making a mockery of the WNBA’s gender eligibility rules by attempting to enter the league as a fake transgender woman. While the WNBA hasn’t had much to say about his antics publicly, it seems like he has now attracted the attention of the President of the United States.
Kanter Freedom Tries to Enter WNBA
Over the past several weeks, Kanter Freedom has inserted himself into the debate regarding trans women in women’s sports through a series of social media statements, news interviews, and even a high-profile appearance at a WNBA game, where he was kicked out after a verbal altercation with Chicago Sky guard Natasha Cloud.
Over the past few weeks, Kanter Freedom has continued this push, inviting WNBA Commissioner Kathy Engelbert to a “summit” moderated by Caitlyn Jenner to discuss the issue.
“Listen, the whole world is laughing at you. You have turned the WNBA into a laughingstock,” Kanter Freedom said last month. “It is time to stop hiding behind closed-door meetings, excuses, and delays and finally give the public a clear answer.”
The WNBA has never publicly responded to Kanter Freedom, and Front Office Sports has reported that the league is not taking Kanter Freedom’s WNBA Draft declaration seriously, dismissing it as a publicity stunt.
Trump Weighs In
During a recent political rally, Trump warned that the “radical left Democrat communists” want to “have men playing in women’s sports.”
Trump then looked in the crowd for “Freedom,” referring to Enes Kanter Freedom, who was attending the rally. Trump then weighed in on Kanter Freedom’s attempts to join the WNBA. He then called Kanter Freedom “the largest human being.”
“In all fairness, this guy is a monster. He dreams of playing against women,” Trump said. “In fact, he’s willing to say that he’s a woman in order to play against women, and I don’t think he really believes that, but that’s OK. These are minor details.”
It’s worth noting that there has never been a transgender woman attempting to play in the WNBA.
