The Indiana Fever had what the team will hope was a turning point in the season on Monday night, when Caitlin Clark drilled a go-ahead three-pointer with 1.2 seconds remaining to beat the Washington Mystics.
It was an awesome moment for Clark and the Fever, who have dealt with enormous amounts of criticism in recent weeks, especially as Clark has struggled with her scoring efficiency in recent games.
“Sometimes we take great players, and certainly generational talent, for granted,” head coach Stephanie White said of the moment after the game, per ESPN. “What she did was incredible for us. She’s going to have many more moments like that. I know she is. And we needed this one tonight.”
However, while the Fever faithful rejoice, one pundit is predicting that Monday night was it for Caitlin’s time in Indianapolis.
“Last night felt like Caitlin Clark’s last game with Stephanie White and/or the Indiana Fever,” Jason Whitlock posted onX. “CC wanted to play the ENTIRE game. She appeared to check herself back in at top of 2nd QTR only to be pulled immediately. Broadcast crew appeared to turn down halftime interview with Clark to talk with White. White immediately criticizes Clark’s defense.
“The energy between Clark and White and Clark and assistant coaches after making game-winner was unemotional and extremely low. In postgame radio interview, Lexie Hull seemed to insinuate the last play was drawn up for Kelsey Mitchell. Locker-room footage after the game, Clark rolls her eyes while White is talking. Might just be my wishful thinking, but last night seemed like an ending.”
As preposterous as Clark leaving the Fever seems, Whitlock previously posted on X about rumblings he has heard that Clark will be traded to the Los Angeles Sparks. The Fever are slated to face the Chicago Sky on Thursday, so we’ll know sooner rather than later if Whitlock is right about Clark’s Monday shot being her last key moment as an Indiana Fever.
