The WNBA is growing at an exponential rate. The arrival of Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese in the 2024 draft has already paid serious dividends in the form of in-game attendance, television viewership, and even expansion franchises.
However, the players are well-aware of their critical role in the league’s success and the ballooning financial success it is finding. Unsurprisingly, the players opted out of the current collective bargaining agreement, and negotiations are currently underway for a new agreement between the league and the WNBAPA.
On Monday, more reporting came out on where the two sides were at in terms of a new agreement.

However, an interesting part in the negotiations has been the emergence of “Project B,” an international 5-on5 basketball league that is meant to serve as an alternative to the WNBA and NBA, and starting with a focus on the women’s side that is set to begin play in November 2026.
Project B has already recruited several top talents from the WNBA, including but not limited to, Seattle Storm star Nneka Ogwumike, Phoenix Mercury Star Alyssa Thomas, and former league MVP Jonquel Jones.
However, the league still has not gotten a commitment from Clark, who figures to be its white whale thanks to her enormous star power. It’ll be interesting to see if the league, which will not have a salary cap, can make an offer that Clark can’t refuse.
