Rey Mysterio Dominik Mysterio

On Friday night’s episode of WWE SmackDown, the latest chapter of the father and son feud between Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio unfolded on the racetrack…inside the LA Coliseum.

During a promotional appearance involving The New Day, Rey, and retired NASCAR drivers/Fox commentators Clint Bowyer and Michael Waltrip, The Judgment Day crashed the party and brought Ross Chastain with them.

Now this is the kind of over-the-top sports entertainment that works when done at the right moment.

With Bowyer and Chastain in the passenger seat giving pointers, Rey and Dominik took a couple stock cars out on the track and raced each other. They weren’t going that fast, but it’s enough to make you look past that.

Rey emerged as the winner, but Dominik clearly didn’t like that as he accused his dad of cheating and got into a scuffle that had to be broken up by track workers.

NASCAR is starting up its 75th season with an exhibition race inside the stadium this Sunday night on Fox. So yeah, this might be a result of corporate synergy, but the network combined two of my favorite things. And this kind of cross-promotion, which I’m sure there will be a WWE element on Sunday night, can benefit both NASCAR and WWE in terms of getting fans of one fanbase to try the other.
