Ric Flair, Charlotte Flair, Women's Championship

There isn’t anyone who has had a bigger turnaround over the past few months than Ric Flair. When Flair was hospitalized a few months ago, many hoped he would pull through but were expecting the worst. What we knew sounded dire and were sadly awaiting news that the Nature Boy would pass away.

Like many of his matches, Flair kicked out at two when many thought he was out and has made a remarkable recovery. Last week, Flair’s 30 for 30 premiered and is slowly getting back to health. But while he has largely stayed off TV to recuperate, Flair wasn’t going to miss a night like tonight.

In the Flair family hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina, Flair’s daughter Charlotte competed against Natalya (Jim Neidhart’s daughter and Bret Hart’s niece) for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Charlotte defeated Natalya to become SmackDown Women’s Champion for the first time. It would be a happy ending for the fans in Flair Country to see Charlotte Flair win a championship, but everyone received an emotional surprise.

When Also Sprach Zarathustra hit and the Nature Boy walked out, the tears were flowing as father congratulated daughter on her big win in their hometown. Charlotte Flair now goes from the 5v5 Women’s elimination match to a Champion vs. Champion match against Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss at Survivor Series.
