The main event of WWE’s SummerSlam was Randy Orton taking on part-time WWE and part-time UFC superstar Brock Lesnar.  The match ended up with a finish out of the latter as Lesnar elbowed Orton in the skull and left him bleeding profusely.

Lesnar returned to a WWE ring after his successful return to the UFC earlier this summer against Mark Hunt, although that victory has been clouded by a possible drug violation.

After Lesnar and Orton traded finishers, the Beast Incarnate went with elbows and forearms to attack the Viper, purposefully using driving elbows to the top of Orton’s skull to bust him open the hard way.  That left Orton wearing the proverbial crimson mask.  You might want to skip the video if you’re squeamish at all.

Orton needed ten staples to close a wound that looked pretty disgusting.

There are people that want to always question the toughness of professional wrestlers (ahem, Conor McGregor), but there’s maybe .0000000001% of the world’s population that would volunteer to get multiple elbows from Brock Lesnar to the top of their skull so he could turn it into mincemeat.

Ever since his return to WWE, Lesnar has been portrayed as walking the tight rope between the entertainment realm of pro wrestling and the sports realm of mixed martial arts.  It’s brought a realism, intensity, and drama to his performances that isn’t always present in WWE.  Many of Lesnar’s matches have featured MMA-style outcomes, but none were as violent-looking as last night.  It was one of the most shocking scenes in a WWE ring in a number of years.
