Once again it’s time to drop the mitts and watch a bunch of hockey players beat each other up. This week we have an outstanding collection of five fights which are some of the best of the season. Playoff races are heating up and so too is the anger on the ice.
5. Micheal Haley (SJ) vs Derek Dorsett (VAN) – Mar. 3rd
This fight is particularly awesome because the broadcast was able to capture the smack talk between Haley and Dorsett prior to the gloves going flying. There isn’t much room for either player to operate, but Haley is able to get in the best blows in this one.
4. Tom Wilson (WAS) vs Adam McQuaid (BOS) – Mar. 5th
Wilson and McQuaid are two fighters with loads of experience. Despite Wilson’s experience, he was simply no match for McQuaid in a fight which looked more like a beating than an actual bout.
3. Jamie Benn (DAL) vs Paul Gaustad (NSH) – Mar. 1st
If you see Benn drop his gloves, look out. Gaustad looks like he has a pretty good handle on Benn’s arms, but once Benn is able to break free, it’s a pretty lopsided affair.
2. Rickard Rakell (ANA) vs Kris Versteeg (LA) – Mar. 5th
This basically boils down to a line brawl, but the Rakell-Versteeg scrap was the best of the bunch. It takes a couple minutes for it to develop, but once it does … wow. There’s a lot of anger between these two teams and it’s on display here. Versteeg jumps out strong, but Rakell rebounds and has about 20 seconds of vicious punches.
1. Nick Ritchie (ANA) vs Jarred Tinordi (ARZ) – Mar. 3rd
In the era of visors in the NHL, it’s rare you see so many punches in a fight catch a player squarely in the face. Tinordi’s helmet stayed on, but he was on the receiving end of some absolutely brutal punches to the mouth/chin. Remarkably, this was Ritchie’s first fight in the NHL. You’d never guess based on how easily he pummels Tinordi.
