Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Adrián González has gone 16 years with his jersey saying Gonzalez on it. Apparently he has had enough, and is potentially starting a movement within the Latino players of Major League Baseball.
Recently, González walked out to the field with the accent on his name for the very first time.
Después de 16 años en las grandes ligas solo me faltaba ponerle acento a una cosa. @kikehndez te reto #ponleacento. pic.twitter.com/lPwALrhR8G

The hashtag on the end loosely translates to “put your accent on,” and it caught on with at least one other player. As Kike Hernández was the target of his dare in the Tweet, and the next day it was Hernández becoming the second player to put his name with the accent on his jersey.
As of now, the trend hasn’t caught on like wildfire yet — but don’t be surprised to see MLB make a concerted effort to make names more authentic on jersey’s of the future. It should be, given the influence the Latino player has had on the modern era of professional baseball.
