Eddie Lacy

Eddie Lacy is officially listed on Packers.com as weighing 234 pounds, which is basically the NFL equivalent of Kevin Durant being 6-foot-9.

After being labeled overweight by everyone who saw him in uniform last year, including his own coach, Lacy has come to camp this spring looking svelte… at 240 pounds.

According to ESPN sources, Lacy has lost 15 to 18 pounds since last season and is now down “in the 240s.” He looked pretty good in a selfie that made the rounds back in March and apparently impressed onlookers Tuesday. Via ESPN:

In his first public practice of the offseason, Lacy put his remade body on display Tuesday during the Packers’ first open organized team activity of the year.

“I think I look good,” Lacy said after practice.

Lacy seemed to respond well to coach Mike McCarthy’s comments after last season that the running back — who rushed for 758 yards in 2015 after going over 1,100 each of the previous two years — “cannot play at the weight he did this year.” Lacy spent the offseason eating healthy, working out with P90X founder Tony Horton, boxing and playing basketball, according to ESPN.

Asked about McCarthy’s comments Tuesday, the 25-year-old former second-round pick appeared unfazed. Per ESPN:

“At the end of the day, we’re all grown men,” Lacy said. “Whether he calls me out, I just have to take care of that responsibility. You don’t get mad or [lash] out or anything like that. You just take it as it is what it is and make it go away.

“I feel like I handled it well, and I held up my end of the bargain,” he added. “It’s a process. I’ve got to keep going and just keep hoping for the best.”

Lacy is obviously an important part of the Packers’ offense, a source of balance for the pass-happy unit helmed by Aaron Rodgers. At his best, Lacy is a redzone menace. He tallied 11 touchdowns as a rookie in 2013 and 9 in 2014 before slipping to 3 in 2015. A newly in-shape Lacy could be the difference for the Packers in 2016 in what should be a highly competitive NFC.
