Good minor league baseball teams are always on top of their game when it comes to being socially aware. Last year when a rat took New York by storm for dragging a slice of pizza through the streets, everybody wanted to cash in on the idea. One minor league baseball team may be taking a while to come around to the idea, but the possibility of renaming themselves the Pizza Rats is reportedly on the table.

The Staten Island Yankees are asking fans to suggest a new team name as they look to create a new brand identity. They opened up the floor for nominations and narrowed down the list to a handful of the top candidates. Among the options are the Staten Island Bridge Trolls, State Island Heroes, Staten Island Killer Bees, Staten Island Rock Pigeons, and last but certainly not least, the Staten Island Pizza Rats.

Sadly, no candidate honoring the life of Harambe made the cut, but the Pizza Rats could still be in the running. Odds are the Staten Island Heroes will be the winning pick as it can be used to pay tribute to local and military heroes in the Staten Island community and serve up some delicious themed menu items that tie into the brand of the minor league club. Seeing rats and pizza on the same menu may be a turnoff for some.

There’s something kinda perfect about choosing between honoring those who protect our freedoms and a rat who was really, really hungry and didn’t give AF. In a way, we’re not sure which honors America better.
